Mel Blanc voiced Señor Vulturo, a Looney Tunes character who appeared in the shorts “Tortilla Flaps” and “Mucho Locos”.
Señor Vulturo, a Mexican-themed cartoon character, and a vulture, attempted to eat Speedy Gonzales and other mice. Excitedly shouting “Mouseburgers!” when he spotted them beneath him, the scared mice named him Bandito Bird and El Vulturo Horrible.
Speedy, on the other hand, called him Señor Vulturo. After forging a truce with Speedy, Señor Vulturo faced attacks from both sides with balls and darts in an amusement booth operated by Speedy.
What Was Tortilla Flaps?
At a Cinco de Mayo fiesta, Speedy Gonzales showcases his incredible speed in a solo Peeng-Pong exhibition, racing across the table to hit the ball back before it even reaches the other side. One mouse spectator mentions that Speedy dates his sister, but another chimes in, saying Speedy dates everyone’s sister.
Spotting the commotion from above, a fat vulture cries out “Mouseburgers!” and dives towards the audience, causing a scatter. Speedy assures the mice he’ll handle Señor Vulturo.
As the bird tries to snatch a mouse, Speedy rescues the mouse and plants a lit firecracker in the vulture’s grasp. After scalding his foot, the vulture dunks it in a rain barrel, but Speedy’s antics make him tumble inside.
The bird confronts Speedy about his interrupted dinner and swings at him, only for the nimble mouse to evade through song and dance. A chase ensues out of town, culminating in Speedy tricking the vulture onto train tracks where a locomotive strikes him.
When Señor Vulturo aims a cannon at Speedy, the swift mouse zips behind, startling the bird. The vulture accidentally positions himself in front of the firing cannon, enduring another blow.
Speedy taunts the bird, saying he’ll lead him to a plump mouse. However, he deceives Señor Vulturo by diving into a mousehole, causing the bird to crash into a wall.
In retaliation, Señor Vulturo offers Speedy a ball-and-cup game filled with nitroglycerin. While Speedy enjoys the toy, he avoids the dangerous objective. Frustrated, the vulture demonstrates, inadvertently detonating the explosive on himself.
Eventually, Señor Vulturo and Speedy declare a truce. Still, Speedy mischievously sets up a booth at the fiesta, allowing patrons to throw balls at the vulture’s head and aim darts at a target on his rear.
What Was Mucho Locos?
“Mucho Locos” is a Warner Bros. Merrie Melodies cartoon directed by Robert McKimson. Released in 1966, this short features Speedy Gonzales and Daffy Duck.
In the cartoon, Daffy travels to Mexico and, in his typical fashion, finds himself in various comedic predicaments, often involving Speedy Gonzales. Speedy, the “fastest mouse in all Mexico,” often outwits Daffy, leading to many humorous scenarios.
This cartoon is one of several where Daffy Duck and Speedy Gonzales share the screen, with their contrasting personalities providing much of the comedic tension.
