Manipulative anime girl characters include Makima, Kasane, Yuno Gasai, Ai Enma, Himiko, Miyo Takano, and Lucy from Elfen Lied.
Anime girls are undeniably a cornerstone of anime culture. With their large, gleaming eyes, lush, flowing hair, detailed attires, and unique personalities, they captivate audiences and propel the storyline.
However, these characters bring more to the table than just their looks – they frequently come with profound backstories and serve as inspiring figures for young female viewers.
They demonstrate prowess in battle, exhibit emotional resilience, and challenge societal norms.
Dark Female Characters In Anime
I find a unique thrill and exhilaration in watching anime series featuring complex, twisted characters. Specifically, the anime universe hosts an array of female characters who are intriguingly dark.
10Makima – Chainsaw Man
The anime girl manipulator, Makima, actively serves in the Public Safety Devil Hunters and directly oversees Denji, the protagonist. While she may look ordinary and exude calmness, Makima wields overwhelming power and showcases a chillingly ruthless side, fitting her role as the control devil.
When interacting with others, especially Denji, Makima’s manipulative streak shines through. At first, she seems genuinely kind, frequently praising and rewarding Denji for his devil-hunting feats. Yet, she does so mainly to keep Denji firmly under her grip.
As the tale unfolds, her manipulation takes an even darker turn.
9Kasane – Durarara!!
The anime girl manipulator, Kasane Kujiragi, hails from the “Durarara!!” series, penned by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda. She doesn’t make her debut until later in the storyline, but her emergence as a key antagonist and shadowy figure adds depth and intrigue.
Actively embedded in Nebula, a dominant entity in Ikebukuro, Kasane’s cunning shines as she artfully bends people and events to favor both her and her organization.
A standout trait of hers is her possession of the “real” Saika, a bewitched blade with the power to dominate anyone it slices. She leverages this blade to steer various scenarios in the series.
8Ai Enma – Hell Girl
In her early childhood, at the mere age of seven, Ai Enma was brutally subjected to death by fire at the hands of her villagers, transforming her into a spirit fueled by revenge.
Given the proximity of Ai’s family’s dwelling to the mountain harvest, they were unjustly held responsible for the devastating famine that followed.
Ai’s sorrowful history can arguably be considered one of the most heart-wrenching among anime characters who have committed villainous acts.
When Ai was reborn as a spiteful spirit, she devastated her village, extinguishing the lives of all its residents. With no regard for their innocence, she pulls the children’s souls into the depths of hell. As punishment for her deeds, she is condemned to spend her entire afterlife under the notorious title of the “Hell Girl.”
7Esdeath – Akame Ga Kill
Esdeath’s manipulative characteristics are perhaps best seen in how she manages her troops and interacts with her subordinates. She has a charismatic personality, which she uses to gain loyalty and control over those under her command.
However, this charm is a veneer that hides her more ruthless tactics, such as intimidation and fear, to maintain control and discipline.
Her manipulation also extends to emotional and psychological tactics, particularly visible in her interactions with Tatsumi, one of the main characters and a member of the rebel group Night Raid.
6Himiko – My Hero Academia
Himiko, despite her seemingly innocent yet dark demeanor, aspires to reach the same level of terror and lethality as The Hero Killer. It’s noteworthy to mention that she is one of the strongest figures in The League of Villains.
Though her infatuation with Deku may seem odd, Himiko is a proficient combatant with an unusual sense of humor. Her intelligence may not be immediately evident but shouldn’t be underestimated.
My Hero Academia is a gripping anime that blends thrilling and shadowy battles with uplifting moments that inspire viewers. In this narrative, Deku comes into possession of an extraordinary Quirk, which propels him down a challenging and frequently agonizing journey toward achieving his aspiration of becoming a bona fide hero.
5Megumi Shimizu – Shiki
Megumi Shimizu is a character from the anime and manga series “Shiki,” written by Fuyumi Ono. She starts as a human character but becomes a significant figure after turning into a vampire-like creature known as a “Shiki.” Megumi’s personality traits, especially her manipulative side, are accentuated following her transformation.
In her human life, Megumi is characterized by her deep dissatisfaction with her life in the quiet village of Sotoba, and her dream of living in a big city.
After becoming a Shiki, Megumi gets a new perspective on life, or rather, afterlife. Her manipulative characteristics begin to show, particularly in how she manipulates her former human relationships for the benefit of the Shiki community.
4Miyo Takano – Higurashi When They Cry
Miyo Takano, a character from an anime, managed to conceal her true identity from the other characters and the fans. The main plot point is the curse of Oyashiro, driven by her grandfather’s research and her immortality.
Although her actions cause suffering and pain, she enjoys manipulating and using people as test subjects. Higurashi When They Cry is an anime series with mature themes and unexpected comedic moments that will break your heart and send shivers down your spine. The story revolves around a group of friends living in a fictional Japanese village plagued by mysterious curses.
3Kotonoha Katsura – School Days
In my perspective, Makoto from School Days doesn’t qualify as a commendable boyfriend. Even though he was involved with multiple girls, he feigned surprise when confronted with the complexity of his actions, despite having pursued intimate relationships with each one of them.
Many of the girls who shared a close relationship with him developed an intense infatuation towards him. However, few could match the level of Kotonoha Katsura. Kotonoha was initially Makoto’s girlfriend. Being an extreme introvert with no social life before encountering him, she quickly formed a powerful attachment to him. Over time, she transformed into an intensely possessive individual, willing to remove anyone she deemed a threat to her relationship with Makoto.
2Lucy – Elfen Lied
Lucy is a character afflicted with a dissociative identity disorder, making her a blend of both endearing innocence and lethal danger, enhancing her dark anime persona. Though she might seem tender-hearted and naive, Lucy has the capacity to transform into a cold-blooded and pitiless assassin.
Her unpredictable temperament elevates her to one of the most hazardous anime characters, even with her well-meaning intentions.
The anime Elfen Lied chronicles the journey of two students as they uncover Lucy’s true identity as a fugitive serial killer. The narrative unfolds in a dystopian world where the mutant Diclonii race harbors intentions to exterminate humankind.
1Junko Enoshima – Danganronpa
Junko Enoshima’s maleficence is unmatched. She revels in causing anguish and pain to others whenever the opportunity arises. Her lethal nature is further amplified by her brilliant intellect and acutely toxic personality. Her driving motives are her complete disregard for the emotional and physical suffering of others, and the sheer joy she takes in their misery.
In the series Danganronpa, six students find themselves trapped within a school, forced into a deadly game of murder. The twist lies in the fact that they can escape punishment if they commit murder without being discovered. However, if caught, they must undergo a trial. The show is unsettling and marked by a series of tragic fatalities.
