The Best Characters From Doug

Author: Tyler B Updated: November 25, 2023
5.8K

The main Doug characters are Doug Funnie, Skeeter Valentine, Patti Mayonnaise, Porkchop, Roger Klotz, Judy Funnie, and Phil Funnie. Nickelodeon has dished out a buffet of classics over the years, many of which I passionately adore: “Rugrats,” “Angry Beavers,” “Ren and Stimpy,” “Rocko’s Modern Life,” and yes, even “Wild Thornberrys” (an uncommon favorite, I know) all captured my heart.

Not every show landed for me, though. “iCarly,” “ChalkZone,” “Zoey 101,” and “Rocket Power” missed the mark, and let’s not even start on how “SpongeBob” has changed over time. But nestled among all these offerings, “Doug” shines as a gem. Its charm isn’t in far-fetched tales or over-the-top antics; it’s in the grounded, real-life feeling that captures genuine human experiences. The animation is impeccable, the soundtrack a delightful serenade, and with a sprinkle of humor and a touch of sentiment, “Doug” never fails to engage. Paired with top-notch voice acting, it’s easy to see why the show stays so close to my heart.

Program creators: Jim Jinkins and David Ray Campbell.

Doug cartoon characters

For the record, my personal top three are Doug Funnie (an endearing mix of shyness, intelligence, and compassion), the ever-amusing Skeeter Valentine (all wit and unapologetic self-assurance), and the lovable Porkchop. Now let’s journey down memory lane and revisit the standout characters from “Doug.”

22
Boomer Bledsoe

Boomer Bledsoe

🎭 Role: Member of Roger’s crew

✨ Known For: Being “more talk than thought”

🧠 My Take: The nicest of Roger’s gang, which isn’t a high bar, but still.

Boomer Bledsoe is a steadfast ally to Roger Klotz, sitting around 11½ years old. Doug describes him as someone who is “more talk than thought,” yet Boomer still outshines Willie White in the brains department. Of all of Roger’s companions, he shows the most kindness toward Doug.

21
Mrs. Wingo

Mrs. Wingo

🎭 Role: Schoolteacher

✨ Known For: Being based on a real teacher

🧠 My Take: A sweet little Easter egg from the creator’s own school days.

Mrs. Wingo draws inspiration from the real Mrs. Margarete Wingo, a remarkably skilled educator who taught for many years at Maude Trevvett Elementary School in Henrico County, Virginia. Among her many students was Jim Jinkins, the mastermind behind “Doug.”

20
Willie White

Willie White

🎭 Role: Member of Roger’s crew

✨ Known For: Being the ex-mayor’s son

🧠 My Take: Roger’s most loyal sidekick, if not his sharpest.

William “Willie” White is a fellow student and an integral member of Roger Klotz’s crew. He might not be the sharpest tool in Roger’s set, but their bond seems stronger than Roger’s ties with his other associates. Willie’s father once held the title of Bluffington’s mayor, until Tippi Dink defeated him in a later election.

19
Principal Buttsavitch

Principal Buttsavitch

🎭 Role: School principal

✨ Known For: Being a monotone stickler with a soft spot for the Beets

🧠 My Take: Proof that even the strictest authority figure has a fun side.

A stickler for the rules, this principal runs Bluffington School with a firm hand. With a monotone voice and a meticulous nature, he often serves as a comedic antagonist to Doug’s school life. Yet glimpses into his personal interests, like his fondness for the Beets (Doug’s favorite band), reveal a more multifaceted character than the usual stern administrator.

18
Bob White

Bob White - doug cartoon characters

🎭 Role: Mayor of Bluffington

✨ Known For: The slogan “Vote for me!”

🧠 My Take: The platonic ideal of a forgettable smooth-talking politician.

Bob White, voiced by Greg Lee, juggles multiple roles with a blend of forgetfulness and good cheer. For much of the Nickelodeon series, he serves as the spirited mayor of Bluffington. In the Disney adaptation, he becomes principal of Beebe Bluff Middle School. A quintessential smooth-talking politician, he is best remembered for his straightforward, catchy campaign mantra: “Vote for me!”

17
Chalky Studebaker

Chalky Studebaker

🎭 Role: Star athlete and student

✨ Known For: Being the all-American golden boy

🧠 My Take: The “perfect” kid who quietly carries the most pressure.

Chalky Studebaker is the epitome of the all-American boy: captain of various sports teams, a good student, and always trying to do the right thing. But he often grapples with the weight of expectations, from his family and from himself. His interactions with Doug drive home the idea that everyone, no matter how “perfect” they seem, has their own insecurities and struggles.

16
Cleopatra “Dirtbike” Funnie

Cleopatra Dirtbike Funnie

🎭 Role: Youngest Funnie (Disney era)

✨ Known For: Her odd nickname and her Christmas debut

🧠 My Take: A Disney-era addition with one of the franchise’s most memorable names.

Cleopatra “Dirtbike” Funnie, vividly voiced by Fred Newman, is the youngest member of the Funnie family and appears exclusively in the Disney series. She first showed up in the heartfelt episode “Doug’s Secret Christmas.” Both the curious nickname “Dirtbike” and her official name, Cleopatra, have a delightfully humorous origin.

15
Lamar Bone

Lamar Bone doug characters

🎭 Role: School disciplinarian

✨ Known For: A total lack of humor

🧠 My Take: Every school had a Mr. Bone, and we all dreaded him.

Holding a degree from Bloatsburg University, Lamar Bone has a notable penchant for disciplining kids and seemingly no sense of humor. He frequently turns up as a thorn in Doug Funnie’s side, though his stern streak isn’t reserved for Doug alone; he is equally strict with every student.

14
Al and Moo Sleech

Al and Moo Sleech

🎭 Role: Genius twin brothers

✨ Known For: Being brilliant 10-year-olds

🧠 My Take: The lovable nerds every cartoon class needs.

Albert “Al” and Moose “Moo” Sleech are a pair of intellectually gifted twin brothers, both just 10 years old yet showing brilliance well beyond their years. These nerdy siblings first appeared in the episode “Doug and the Weird Kids,” where Doug shadows their daily life to gather material for a school assignment.

13
Ned Cauphee

Boomer Bledsoe

🎭 Role: The brains of Roger’s crew

✨ Known For: Having ten siblings and a distinctive face

🧠 My Take: Smarter than the company he keeps would suggest.

Nedward “Ned” Cauphee is the brightest spark in Roger’s group, often leaving his peers puzzled with his superior intellect. From a sizable family, Ned shares his home with ten siblings. His distinct features, notably his prominent lips and one eye larger than the other, make him instantly recognizable.

12
Buddy Dink

Buddy Dink

🎭 Role: Doug’s next-door neighbor

✨ Known For: Purple skin and questionable advice

🧠 My Take: Means well, helps rarely. A classic.

Buddy Dink, brought to life by Fred Newman, is a quirky, purple-skinned retiree with a somewhat naïve demeanor. He lives right beside the Funnie household with his wife, Tippy, voiced by Doris Belack. Doug often seeks Mr. Dink’s counsel, though the advice can fall short. The surname “Dink” is a playful nod to the acronym Dual Income, No Kids.

11
Connie Benge

Connie Benge Doug Characters

🎭 Role: Doug’s classmate and friend

✨ Known For: A heartfelt arc toward self-confidence

🧠 My Take: One of the show’s most quietly relatable characters.

Connie is a character who evolves significantly across the series. She starts out more self-conscious, and viewers watch her grow into a more confident, self-assured young woman. Her arc offers a real lesson in self-acceptance and personal growth, making her relatable to many young viewers navigating their own self-image.

10
Stinky

Stinky doug characters

🎭 Role: Roger’s pet cat

✨ Known For: A surprise reveal that she’s female

🧠 My Take: The kittens twist genuinely got me as a kid.

Stinky, voiced by Fred Newman, is Roger’s magenta-hued anthropomorphic feline companion, devoted above all to her owner, Roger Klotz. In the episode “Doug’s Fat Cat,” Judy Funnie briefly takes a shine to her, and the same episode delivers a surprise: Stinky is female, made plain when she becomes a mother to three adorable kittens.

9
Theda Funnie

Theda Funnie

🎭 Role: Funnie family baby (Disney era)

✨ Known For: Arriving on Christmas Day

🧠 My Take: A small role, but a sweet one to close the family out.

Introduced exclusively in the Disney adaptation, the newest addition to the Funnie clan made her grand entrance on Christmas Day, bringing a sense of novelty and excitement to the series. Remarkably, by the show’s conclusion she had made an impressive developmental stride, beginning to vocalize and communicate and carving out her own presence in the household.

8
Judith Anastasia “Judy” Funnie

Judy Funnie

🎭 Role: Doug’s older sister

✨ Known For: Beatnik flair and dramatic performances

🧠 My Take: The artsy teen sibling we all either had or were.

Judy, Doug’s older sister, is Bluffington’s quintessential artsy teen. With her beatnik style and flair for the dramatic, she attends the Moody School, an academy for gifted students. She often baffles Doug with her avant-garde performances, but her passion for art and self-expression is unmistakable. Judy embodies the spirit of individuality, teaching viewers to embrace their quirks and passions.

7
Phil Funnie

phil funnie doug characters

🎭 Role: Doug’s father

✨ Known For: His baseball pitch, the “Funnie Fireball”

🧠 My Take: A solid, dependable cartoon dad with a fun backstory.

Among the “Doug” roster, Phil Funnie holds a special place as patriarch of the Funnie clan, father to Doug, Judy, and Dirtbike. Originally from Bloatsburg, he moved to Bluffington after landing a job and putting down roots for his family. More than a family man, Phil has quite the baseball reputation, especially for his stellar pitching and the famous “Funnie Fireball.”

6
Porkchop

Porkchop doug characters

🎭 Role: Doug’s loyal dog

✨ Known For: Wild disguises and unwavering loyalty

🧠 My Take: The platonic ideal of a cartoon best-dog.

No character summary would be complete without Doug’s loyal canine companion, Porkchop. More than just a pet, he often plays pivotal roles in Doug’s escapades, turning up as a snowman, a secret agent, and even a reindeer. His unwavering loyalty and comic antics reinforce the timeless bond between a boy and his dog.

5
Beebe Bluff

Beebe Bluff From Doug

🎭 Role: Bluffington heiress

✨ Known For: Her wealth and pink-tinted hair

🧠 My Take: Starts as the rich snob, ends up surprisingly layered.

Among the “Doug” cast, Beebe Bluff holds a distinct place as heiress to the Bluff family fortune and a member of Bluffington’s “elite.” Beyond her wealth, her pink-tinted hair and trendy fashion make her easy to spot. She can come off as pretentious at times, but Beebe’s character offers unexpected depth.

4
Roger M. Klotz

Roger Klotz From Doud Cartoon

🎭 Role: Doug’s bully and rival

✨ Known For: The leather jacket and fiery red hair

🧠 My Take: The rare cartoon bully written with real shades of grey.

In any discussion of “Doug” characters, Roger Klotz stands out as the quintessential antagonist of Bluffington. In his emblematic leather jacket and fiery red hair, Roger consistently plays the role of Doug’s bully. But behind the tough exterior is a character with real depth: hints of a chaotic home life suggest his abrasive behavior may stem from vulnerability. He’s a powerful reminder that not every adversary is wicked; some are just misunderstood.

3
Mosquito “Skeeter” Valentine

Skeeter Valentine

🎭 Role: Doug’s best friend

✨ Known For: Blue skin and his signature honking

🧠 My Take: The ideal best friend: confident, weird, and totally himself.

With his distinctive blue hue, Skeeter Valentine is Doug’s closest buddy and a central figure in his friend group across both the Nickelodeon and Disney adaptations. Known for his signature honking sounds in both versions, Skeeter has a unique charm. A long-time Bluffington resident, he introduces Doug to local delicacies at the famed Honker Burger in the series premiere, cementing their bond.

2
Patricia “Patti” Mayonnaise

Patti Mayonnaise From Doug

🎭 Role: Doug’s crush

✨ Known For: Golden hair and a contagious laugh

🧠 My Take: Far more than a love interest, which is why she endures.

On any list of “Doug” characters, Patti Mayonnaise shines with her golden hair and contagious laughter. She isn’t just Doug’s enduring crush; she’s a beacon of youthful romance for countless fans. More than a simple love interest, Patti embodies athleticism, compassion, and assertiveness, leading school activities with real poise. She defies the clichés of her era, teaching young audiences about authentic friendship and ambition.

1
Douglas Yancey “Doug” Funnie

Doug Funnie Cartoon Character

🎭 Role: Protagonist

✨ Known For: His journal and his alter ego, Quailman

🧠 My Take: One of Nickelodeon’s most genuinely relatable leads, full stop.

When discussing the iconic characters of “Doug,” the conversation starts with the contemplative, daydreaming protagonist, Doug Funnie. In his signature green sweater and white T-shirt, Doug navigates the turbulent journey of adolescence. With his trusty journal always close at hand, he writes tales of his superhero alter ego, Quailman, reflecting his own battles and victories. Doug’s genuine quirks and heartfelt demeanor make him endlessly captivating.
